1. Garrangali
We are the the Garrangali, descendants of the crocodile.
This is about the ancestral land, where the first Baru man walked the earth.
2. Mungurru
Blue Mud Bay is Mungurru, divided into three names;
Mungurru, Wulamba & Manbuynga.
The Mangalili, Madarrpa & Dhalwangu clans sing and paint the story of Mungurru (the sea country at Blue Mud Bay) & own it.
The kinship between these clans is that of grandmother and grandchild. It is the same in the sea country, we have borders for each moiety, Yirritja and Dhuwa (mother and child).
3. Tongues Of The Fire
The first light we saw was fire, the Tongues Of The Fire, sharing between 3 clans; Madarrpa,Gumatj & Gupapuyngu. The fire started at Madarrpa ancestral land, called Mukurala Gumurrutjpi .
4. Sea Rights
A song of celebration, about recognition of Sea Rights; native title to the tidal zone & sea around Blue Mud Bay. This is a landmark precedent case in the Supreme Court known as The Blue Mud Bay Decision, now part of Northern Territory & Australian Law.
5. Mirri
The string made from the dawu tree is Mirri (Ficus Virens). It is about the ancestral journey linking 2 dhuwa clans together; Rirratjingu & Djambarrpuyngu.
6. Djanytjunga
The great sea hunter is Djanytjunga- an ancestral being of great power and significance.
7. Nambarra
The leaf of the paperbark tree is Nambarra.
It is used as a bush medicine to cure flu and colds.
Nambarra also means a Yolngu person from Dhurupitjpi, in North East Arnhem Land.
8. IPA
The Indigenous Protected Area is also known as IPA. An Indigenous Protected Area is an area of indigenous owned land or sea, where traditional owners have entered into an agreement with the Australian Government to promote cultural resource conservation & biodiversity. Indigenous Protected Areas make a most significant contribution to both conservation & biodiversity.
9. Muthi Muthi
The soldier crab is Muthi Muthi, it represents 4 clans; Madarrpa, Mangalili, Birrkili & Dhalwangu.
Muthi Muthi created the sand sculpture, Yingabungabu.
Ths dance is about the creator, who came from the land.
